When I tell people I am a Life Coach, most of them give me a look of confusion, and ask me one of two questions:
What is a Life Coach? or Why would I hire a Life Coach?
We could all use a little coaching. When you’re playing the game, it’s hard to think of everything. ~Jim Rohn
What is a Life Coach?
I’ll quote from the Coach for Life Website, because I love their definition.
Coaching is holding a space of total acceptance for your self and for your client as you facilitate the client’s self-discovery and re-connection to their inner most truths about them self – their qualities, their gifts and their life purpose. The coach also facilitates the client with their conscious alignment with their inner most truths in their everyday decisions. The coach’s role is to raise the level of consciousness of the client through questions that allow the client to choose what they want, what they are prepared to do and what they are prepared to commit to them self in the present moment. The coach is charged with the responsibility of supporting the client by asking them what awareness came up for them in doing (or not doing) the commitments the client had made to them self.
Why would I hire a Life Coach?
I wrote an entire blog post on why I would hire a coach. To sum up, Life Coaching is a proven method for accelerating your growth and achieving your goals and desires. If you are ready to move your life forward at a faster pace, raise your personal awareness, and be supported unconditionally, then consider hiring a Life Coach.

After 18 years of marriage, I have called it quits. I was living a life where I had compromised my integrity. I did not want to raise my children with an alcoholic, but even more than that ,I didn’t want to be a single parent. My children are now 16 & 17 and I don’t need anymore help raising them anymore, if I actually had much of it before. I am in school, I am active in the theatre, I am spiritual, and ready for the next chapter in my life. I would love to try some life coaching.

The first session of coaching is a unique experience, you are given a few writing exercises with specific questions; Mary takes this information, explaining what she is doing and you end up with a profile of the truth of your self. I was very impressed and in awe of how accurate the “profile” was, it was a big eye opener to me. It was one of those “ah ha” moments to realize that I had stopped doing some of the things that I love, activities that involve being who I am, that are enjoyable and nurturing to my soul.
Mary is a very patient, kind and supportive coach, she’s an attentive listener and notices body language, tone of voice, and other cues that something is going on internally. There have been times when I’ve been feeling resistant about focusing on or working on resolving an issue. Mary helps me to dig through the feelings, to sort out the unease and seek the root cause, and she does this in a very compassionate manner. I also have to say she does bring my attention to the barriers I place around situations and does challenge me to answer why that wall of defense is there.
I really respect Mary because she works with me to resolve issues. I know that no one is able to do the work or make positive changes for me, it’s my responsibility, and Mary also works from this philosophy. When I have discovered that something is lacking or causing ripples in other areas of my life, she will ask “What are you going to do about it?” She does not tell you how to resolve it, instead you work together to come up with a plan of action, and the changes you would like to make and what they would look like in your life.
I also love that Mary comes from her heart when working with me, and she brings the spiritual, metaphysical, universal law aspect of life into her work. Something that is lacking in many coaching/counseling sessions that is important to me personally.
If you are looking for a life coach who encourages you to discover the truth about yourself, someone to explore the challenges that come up and a person who helps you to make a realistic action plan to resolve issues, Mary is the coach for you!
