We are rapidly sliding into the end of the year, and most people I know cannot wait for 2020 to be over. It has definitely been a wild ride, to put it politely.

In March and April, it felt like each day was a year long. Now it’s December. How the <bleep> is it already December???
As much as I am ready for this year to be over, I’m not really sure I’m ready to start a new year. Because, let’s face it, we aren’t going to wake up on January 1st, 2021, and suddenly have fixed the climate emergency, the pandemic, and social inequality.
What I’d really like to do is hibernate. Crawl in a bed and sleep until I can wake up in a better world.
Yes, that is probably a little depression talking. I’m working from home, sleeping later, not working out because the pool is closed again, and zoning out with games on my phone.
Thankfully, I have meaningful work to keep me active, and a puppy that both gives and needs lots of love and attention.
We are in the depths of the darkest time of year (in the northern hemisphere). The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer and longer. It is a time of turning inward, of self reflection.
Normally, we are distracted from this important work by holiday parties and gift giving. This year, we are being encouraged to stay in our homes, away from gatherings of any size. We are encouraged to do our inner work, and find our own light, our own truth, and our own path.
Are we there yet? No, not yet. We’re getting closer, though. And maybe, just maybe, one morning we will wake up to our shared brilliance and worth.
Blessings,
Mary
