Tarot Lessons

This weekend was really busy for me with markets, and the markets themselves were really busy! We went up to Port Hardy for Filomi Days on Saturday, then back home for our regular Pier Street Market on Sunday.

I did a lot of tarot readings over those two days. I did quite a bit of coaching with those readings, too. One of the things I was taught is that when you do a lot of readings for other people, the card (or cards) that come up over and over are the messages for you, the reader.

Barely a month after posting about how I need to do less (Reducing the Hustle), I’m in the midst of three weeks without a break. The last two weekends in a row, I’ve done four markets – one each Saturday and Sunday.

And my cards were calling me out, through my clients.

The Empress and the Queen of Pentacles kept coming up over and over. For me, those two cards are reflections of each other – the first is the life lesson, and the second is the day to day practice.

Both cards speak of the nurturer, the caretaker, the one who is looking after everyone else, and often puts themselves last. Which, naturally, leads to burnout at best, and resentment at worst. The Empress and the Queen of Pentacles remind us to take care of ourselves. First.

I heard Lisa Nichols give a good example at a conference I attended.

She told us to “give from our saucer”. We can’t give from an empty cup, so we need to make sure our cup is so full it overflows, and then give from the overflow.

I share that story often in my readings, and I have not been practicing what I preach. So when I was invited to vend at another market this coming Saturday, with a very minimal vending fee, I had to think about it. I ultimately decided that I need a day off more than anything else. That’s right, I put myself first.

I don’t know if that alone will get my cup to overflow, however, it will sure help keep it from draining dry.

Now I just need to get through the rest of the week…

Blessings,
Mary
