I don’t generally follow blogs about paganism and Wicca. Mostly because I don’t have time to read everything that gets published. Who would, really? It would be a 24-7 job. And I digress. I also start to see the arguments that go on between bloggers, and I can’t be bothered.
There’s a lot of anger, and a lot of black or white opinions, and even some misinformation. Some of it is couched in lovely language so it can be difficult to tell where the biases are.
I don’t care if you spell it Pagan or pagan. I don’t care if you think we are a religion or not. Sexual predators are serious and need to be dealt with, however, they are not unique to paganism or Wicca. The Catholic Church is dealing with several cases of sexual assault right now. It’s a bigger issue, one of rape culture and personal agency and lots of other things that people much smarter than me can explain better than I ever could.
There is a global climate crisis going on. Missing and murdered Indigenous women. Our food supply being modified to make us more reliant on chemicals. People of color being wrongfully accused of crimes and either incarcerated or killed because of the color of their skin. Our water being polluted or sold to the highest bidder. People filled with so much fear that they are killing the “other” – because of differences in religion, or sexuality, or gender identity, or thinking sex is a right and not a privilege, or any other reason that one person thinks they are better than someone else.
These are bigger problems than semantics and your petty witch wars. STOP IT ALREADY!
I’m talking with my Circle about how to become better stewards of the Earth. I’m talking to my family and friends about growing food or at least eating locally. I’m working to significantly reduce the amount of single use plastics I consume, as well as reduce my garbage in general.
We need to come together. We need to let go of blame and finger pointing. We need to set aside, or better yet embrace, our differences and come together as human beings and figure out how we are going to survive. Because I know one thing – we need to work together if we are going to clean up the mess we’ve made for ourselves.
If you feel called, please join us this weekend for a ceremony of CommUnity. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. Details are available here. Then decide on one change you are going to make in your life. Because many people joined together in ceremony for a common cause CAN make a difference.
Blessings,
Mary
