Reducing the Hustle

Life is tough nowadays. Once upon a time, one income was enough to live on, as long as it was full time. Then we needed one and a half incomes, or even two. And good luck finding that elusive full time job with benefits, especially if you are just starting out in the work force.

hustle/align

I’m pretty lucky. I have one of those unicorns (a full time job with benefits). It’s enough to support my family, as long as the car doesn’t break down, or the washing machine doesn’t need to be replaced, or we want to go on a trip somewhere (and I’m not even talking a vacation to Vegas or Maui, because we definitely haven’t done that!).

Several years ago, I got laid off for the summer. That hit us hard. It was also the push I needed to start reading tarot professionally. It was scary at first, though it became easier the more I did it.

I started with the local Farmer’s Market. Soon I was going to every psychic fair I heard about, as well as a few other special event markets, doing what I could to earn a few extra bucks here and there.

It didn’t stop when I went back to work, though. I booked myself into almost every market I could find. Between markets and festivals, I have been busy nearly every weekend.

Not having days off is a difficult pace to maintain. At first, it didn’t bother me. A change is as good as a rest, right? After a while, though, I stopped bouncing back as quickly.

I’ve been tired for a long time. I’m not a lot farther ahead, either. Sure, I’ve been able to do and experience a few things I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do and experience.

I’ve started to question if it is worth it, though. Do I push myself to the breaking point for the sake of a few extra dollars? Or is it better to simplify my life and enjoy more of it?

A meme on social media, like the one in this post, really hit home for me this week. Better to align and do the events that feel right, rather than trying to do it all.

I cancelled out on an event this past weekend because it didn’t feel right. I wasn’t excited about being there. Instead, I took some time to rest, and prepare some meals for the coming week. I’m really glad I did.

I’m being more picky with the extra events I take on. I deserve time for rest and relaxation.

Are you hustling to make ends meet? Are you in alignment with your purpose? The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive, however, the world needs more alignment.

Blessings,
Mary
