Living the Nine of Pentacles

I call myself the Prosperity Priestess, and I want to let you in on a little secret. I’ve made mistakes when it comes to money. I mean, I’d love to say that I’m rolling in the dough and you can, too, if you just follow these easy steps…

pot of goldWell, that’s not true. If I said that, I’d be pitching you a pipe dream. I would be no better than a snake oil salesman. That’s just not in integrity for me.

The truth is, I’ve made bad investments. I’ve been in debt way over my head. I’ve worried how I’m going to pay all my bills. I still have moments when I engage in retail therapy. I will be the first to admit I’m not perfect. I’m a work in progress.

Lately, I’ve really been feeling like I’m living the Nine of Pentacles. I’ve worked hard, and I’m at a place where I have some ease. Not a lot of ease, a little. Enough to not sweat the small stuff, anyway.

It’s a lot of work to maintain, though. Full time job, teaching in the evenings, reading tarot on the weekends, making the occasional sweater coat… It takes effort. And, it’s what I need to do (for now) to live the life I want to live.

For example, last weekend we went on a family trip. I had saved up some money, and I was prepared. At least, I thought I was. It is not cheap feeding six humans on a road trip! Especially when one of those humans (me) has food restrictions. So when the brakes also needed to be replaced on our vehicle this past week, and it was more expensive than anticipated, I almost panicked.

Almost. A few years ago, setbacks like this would have put me in a tail spin. I would have been freaking out, or getting depressed, or panicking, or all of the above. I didn’t fully trust the Universe to support me. I didn’t really believe there was more than enough. Oh, I said the words. I just didn’t live them.

Now, I’m a lot closer to living that. I feel the stress, and then I remind myself that I live in a supportive Universe, that I am worthy, and there IS more than enough. I remember that I don’t have to be the one to figure out the how – that’s not how manifestation works. I have to put the intention out there, hold a positive expectation, and use the tools and skills I have to work to make it happen.

I finished a sweater coat late Friday night to have ready for the weekend markets. I stayed up late, and got up early to make it to travel three hours to the market on Saturday. And lo and behold, that coat found it’s home this weekend, and we earned enough money to keep moving forward; to take a deep breath and not panic.

It has taken a lot of work to get to this place – a lot of work on myself, changing my beliefs and my mindset; and a lot of physical work at my job and my passion. I’m not where I would like to be. Yet. So I will keep doing the work and know that it gets better and better.

Wishing you lots of abundance and blessings,

Mary

It’s Not About the Money

Working with Lakshmi, however lightly, is teaching me about being in the flow of abundance.

Lakshmi ~ Flow of Prosperity, from the Ascended Masters Oracle Card deck, by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D

Lakshmi ~ Flow of Prosperity, from the Ascended Masters Oracle Card deck, by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D

When you’re working with a deity of prosperity, you don’t just go in making demands and asking for money. It’s not as simple as lighting some incense and saying a prayer and poof! You’ve won the lottery or got that raise! (If it were that easy, everyone would do it.)

Working with deity of any sort requires building a relationship. You have to get to know them. Read their myths. Make offerings of their favorite items. Spend time meditating and connecting with them.

It’s like making a new friend. You don’t just ask for a loan from someone you just met. You start by going out for coffee, and sharing small details about your lives. You go out for lunch, then maybe go to a movie or a concert together. You start spending more and more time with each other, on the phone or in person. And through all of that, the motivation can’t be to ask for a loan.

So my motivation in working with Lakshmi isn’t about getting rich or asking for money. Lakshmi reminds me of the abundance all around me. She helps attune me to the flow of prosperity, to be open to receiving and giving generously.

When I am able to be present, and share my gifts with an open heart, it is a very different energy than sharing because I feel I need the money. I read tarot and coach and teach because I love to see the growth in others, the awareness and the a-ha moments. I love to bring clarity and confirmation to people. (Let me be clear, I’m not saying I don’t enjoy receiving money. Getting paid is definitely a good thing! It also happens to be the easiest form of energy exchange.)

Abundance isn’t really about money, not at its core. It’s about having more than enough, whether that be food, or energy, or love, or any form of blessing. And yes, it can be money. Abundance breeds happiness, because it it is rooted in gratitude.

So thank you, Lakshmi, for helping me to see the abundance all around me, and helping me to be in the flow.

Blessings,

Mary

In the Flow

This week I had a wonderful reminder of being in the flow of abundance and opportunities.

As (almost) always, my week was scheduled to the hilt. Meetings and classes and work and… well, you know the drill.

I’m also organizing the Campbell River Spirit Fair. Because I’m crazy. Because it is a fundraiser for our Circle. I want to make sure it happens, and I had agreed to it a year ago. It is such a fun event!

I’ve had a couple of email money transfers for that event, and another for work that I’ve done, just not show up in my email. I’ve had to request that they be re-issued, which is unusual.

The last time it happened, my friend pointed out that I needed to unblock my acceptance of money – somehow I was repelling it!

That won’t do. No, it won’t do at all.

So I put on the Lakshmi mantra. And immediately reminded myself that I am a child of the Gods. Abundance is my birthright. I am in the flow.

The email money transfer came through. A friend needed kitchen help for a fundraiser, so my boys and I went to help with that, and we will be paid for that work.

I am back in the flow.

It’s not always that easy. Fear and scarcity thinking definitely block the flow of abundance, and those mental spirals aren’t always easy to get out of.

I have a set of affirmations that I use when I find myself succumbing to the itty bitty shitty committee:

  • I am a child of the Gods with Infinite Worth.
  • I am always taken care of.
  • God and Goddess love and accept me.
  • I am always more than enough.
  • The worth of my soul is great.
  • I now fully accept myself.
  • My body is now in perfect balance.
  • I am always healthy and strong.
  • Everything I touch prospers.
  • Other people experience their worth when they are in my presence.
  • Everything works together for my highest and greatest good.

(Adapted from The Creation Course by Tony Lister)

You can adjust it to suit your beliefs. For example, you might say “I am a child of God…” or “God loves me and accepts me”. It’s pretty powerful for fighting off the brain weasels when they run amok, and not just when it comes to abundance.

May you be in the flow as well!

Blessings,

Early to Bed, Early to Rise

I’ve been getting up extra early, nurturing my new baby habit of doing yoga AND meditation when I first wake up. I did both three days last week, and four days so far this week (I’m giving myself a break on my weekends, partly because my muscles need a rest).

I haven’t been going to sleep quite as early as I would like, and this video that I recorded this summer is a good reminder for me to make sure I get to bed early!

Are you getting enough sleep?

Blessings,
Mary

Are You Putting Off Your Passion?

This weekend I attended Vancouver Pagan Pride Day. It was a wonderful opportunity to see how different traditions celebrate and connect to the Divine, and I am grateful that I was able to go, in spite of injuring myself within 10 minutes of arriving on the site, but that’s a different post.

I led a workshop while I was there called “Energy Basics: Grounding and Shielding”, which went very well, even if it was a bit rushed. At the end of the workshop I passed out some business cards for Walks Within so that the people who attended could download the meditations I shared in the workshop (the grounding one is coming soon, I promise!).

Love for moneyOne woman asked me what was involved in the life coaching. I told her that I help her connect to her values and life purpose, raise her awareness, and keep her accountable to what she says she wants to do. I also shared a little bit about the Elements of Abundance program I am working on to help people earn their living from their passion.

The discussion turned to that old lie I keep bumping into: Money is evil.

Once upon a time, somewhere back in my churchgoing days, I was told that money is the root of all evil. And since I was told that when I was an impressionable child, it has stuck with me. Money, or as my husband would correct me, currency, is not evil. It is an inanimate object. It is not inherently good or evil just as a stone is not good or evil.

For the record, the actual quote from the bible is:

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

~1 Timothy 6:10, New Living Translation

Money is a form of energy. You can use it for good or for evil, although that implies that there is a way that is right and one that is wrong, and I don’t totally buy into that anyway. How you direct that energy, how you earn and spend your money, is what is important.

Somewhere along the line, many of us got off track with how we earn our money. I know I certainly have. I hold a job that I am not passionate about because I need to cover the basic needs for myself and, more importantly, for my family.

Don’t get me wrong, there are parts of my job that I enjoy. I do my best there, because I believe in making my piece of the world as beautiful and positive as I can. It is still not my passion. My passion is seeing other people grow personally and spiritually. That’s why I am a life coach and a priestess outside my 9 to 5 job.

So many people I know have a job that is outside of their passion, including the young woman I was talking to at Pagan Pride. I totally understand the motivation to earn money to cover your needs from whatever source is available. My question is, what are you doing to fulfill your passion? If you’re not doing anything, what is one small thing you could change to bring you a little closer to your dream life? You’ll be amazed at how much richer your life will be when you engage your passion and purpose.

Blessings,

Mary

When is it OK to Loan Someone Money?

I received an email yesterday that got me very excited. Kiva is offering “free” loans to new members, and for a limited time, if you sign up via my referral, I receive a credit to make a loan as well.

Kiva LogoWhat is Kiva and why am I so excited?

Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.

I made my first Kiva loan in 2008. I started by donating $50 to a woman in Ghana so she could by more supplies to increase her business selling food in her community.  She is a single mother with five children, and her dream was to send them all to school. Fourteen different people, including me, from all around the world were able to give this woman a helping hand in building her business and changing the circumstances of her life and the lives of her children.

As she repaid her loan, I was able to re-loan the money I had contributed to others. Since then, I have deposited about another $125 into my lending account, and I have made loans to 18 different people. While there are some recipients who default on their loans, so far everyone I have loaned to has repaid their loan in full, and I have been able to send that money back out to keep making a difference. (Knock wood that that trend continues!)

Whenever I make a contribution to my account, I consider that money gone, even though I could withdraw it at any time. This is my donation to the world, one that I can send out again and again, increasing the vibration of those few dollars as they circle the world.

Today is August eighth – 08/08. If you believe in numerology, this is a day of opportunity, prosperity, and financial abundance. It is a lucky day. Let’s make it our lucky day by sending some positive money energy out in the universe. Remember, what you put out to the universe comes back to you times three!

Click the link here and sign up for Kiva. You’ll receive a $25 credit that you can loan out to one of the borrowers on the system, and so will I. This credit is different from money you deposit on your own in that the repayment goes to the sponsor who contributes the credit, and not to our own account. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get a taste for helping others who may never know your name and decide to continue spreading the positive energy of money. You may just change a life.

What are you waiting for? Go loan some money!

Blessings,

Mary

Golden Firefly Bubbles

As I mentioned last week, I’ve been reading on several different topics, including manifestation and abundance.  One of my daily practices has been the 40 Day Prosperity Plan, from The Abundance Book.  Each day there is a statement to read and meditate on.  After my meditation yesterday, I was feeling tired, so I decided to rest for a bit.

And then the magic happened.  With my eyes closed, I saw little golden specks coming towards me.  They were like little fireflies, or the sparks rising from a fire.  At the same time as I could see them, I could feel them rising inside me, like effervescent bubbles from a bath bomb, or when you open a bottle of carbonated drink that has been shaken just a little bit.

It started out as just a small amountof “firefly bubbles”, then there were hundreds and thousands flowing to me and through me.  I felt I was undergoing a transformation.  It was exciting and tickly and refreshing and it lasted only a second or two, though it felt like quite a while.  After the rush had past, I was left with a feeling of peace and joy, bliss even. I also knew in my bones that wherever it was that I was holding myself back, whatever blockage I had put in place for myself had been cleared away, and that I was know fully in the flow of abundance.

I drifted through the rest of the day, taking care of life’s details, but I reflected on my experience again before going to sleep. By thinking about it, I could brnig the feeling back. I was really struck by the thought that I could feel the firefly bubbles inside me, and I could see them coming from outside me.  I realized that this was the experience of manifestation.  I create my reality from within, through feeling (preferably good feelings!), and then I see that coming back to me from outside.  The results are visible,  though the feeling is the important initiator.

I’ve read about the process of manifestation, and I know I have manifested different experiences and things in my life, but for the first time I really feel like I “get” it now!  That momentary experience explained it to me clearer than any book or lecture.  And I am extremely grateful!

I’d love to hear about profound “aha” moments from your life!  Leave a comment and share with me.

Blessings,

Mary
