I Don’t Want to Bother You…

This past week I’ve been called on to help some friends in my spiritual community. It is service that I gladly do – it is part of my calling as a priestess and a life coach.

I’ve also heard something a few too many times this week.”I know you’re a very busy woman. I don’t want to bother you.”

"When you choose to suffer in silence, you prolong your suffering. When you refuse to receive support, you deny me the joy of sharing my gifts with you. So we both suffer."Warning: incoming rant.

Yes, I am an extremely busy woman. I have a lot on my plate. And I sometimes struggle keeping my balance. But you know what? That’s my responsibility. Not yours.

I *chose* this path. I *chose* to the path of ministry and life coaching. I understand that means supporting my community. It is a path of service. I accept that.

That means if you call me, if you send me an email, or a Facebook message, I will do my best to respond. If you ask for my help, I will do what I can to provide it, or connect you with someone who can.

Being a busy woman means I may not be able to come running at the drop of a hat. However, I *will* find time. It’s up to me to manage my schedule – not you.

When you choose to suffer in silence, you prolong your suffering. When you refuse to receive support, you deny me the joy of sharing my gifts with you. So we both suffer.

So please. Stop trying to protect me. Reach out to me if you need to. I’ve gotten a lot better at making time for myself. I promise.

End rant.

Honestly, I really enjoy helping people, and seeing them (you) have “aha” moments. It gives me great joy!

How is Tarot Holding Me Accountable?

Yesterday was my first day reading tarot at the Farmers Market. It was a beautiful day, and because it was also Mothers Day, there were a fair number of people there.

High Priestess - Robin Wood TarotI’ve been alternatively excited and nervous leading up to yesterday. Prior to this year, I’ve dabbled with tarot. It’s an interesting tool, and one I’ve wanted to learn how to better use. I would do occasional readings for myself and sometimes for friends, but I never took the time to study it. I’ve read several different books, and once or twice started “a card a day” study. It didn’t last.

I wasn’t confident enough to let go of my crutch – you know, the little book that comes with the deck. I didn’t trust my own impressions and interpretations of the symbols in the cards.

Because I didn’t trust my connection with Divine Source.

Tarot is just a tool. It helps to tap in to intuition and the collective unconscious. It is a pictorial way for the Divine to give us messages. If you’re anything like me, you need things spelled out. 🙂 Tarot helps to spell things out.

I’ve spent several years now developing my ability to meditate and listen to God. I’ve spent the last year and a half learning more about myself and my connection to the Universe. I’m starting to trust my connection more and more. And so I’m becoming better able to interpret the messages that the Universe sends through the mechanism of the tarot.

I’ve taken the advice of my mentor, and ditched the crutch. I tune in and look at the cards and see what is going on in them individually. And I’m starting to see how they interact with each other. I’m starting to see more of the patterns.

I still have a lot to learn. My readings are still pretty quick. I feel like I’m skimming the surface. There are more layers of meaning, more symbols, more connections. I know they are there, and as I work with the tool more, I will discover more.

Making the commitment to read tarot pretty much every week for the next five months reminds me very much of when I originally started my women’s circle. I have said this is something I want to learn more about. I needed a way to hold myself accountable to do the work. And this commitment is definitely that!

I had a lot of fun yesterday. I enjoyed stretching outside my comfort zone. Plus, the positive feedback and the people watching is a fantastic bonus!

How do you hold yourself accountable? Remember, a life coach can help keep you on track and help you reach your goals faster by finding ways to hold yourself accountable to do the things you say you want to do.

Back to Normal?

The festival preparation craziness is over, and life returns to its previous pace. I somehow always delude myself into thinking that life will get easier once ____ is over. And yet, once that thing is over, there is always something (or several somethings) that fill the void.

What is Normal? It’s wonderful to get away. Unfortunately, the rest of the world rarely stops while I’m gone. So there are things to catch up on – work, bills, laundry, homework. And more keeps piling up. So I am once again behind on my homework and email responses, and more responsibilities are finding their way to me.

I found out at Spring Mysteries that the ArchPriestess of the Aquarian Tabernacle Church of Canada is going on a learning exchange to Ecuador for 5 months starting this summer. I am the Maiden of ATC Canada, so that means I’ll be filling for her while she’s away. Those are pretty big shoes to fill, let me tell you! I’m glad she’s only going for a short while. I really feel like I have a lot more to learn before I take on that big a leadership role.

Once again, my work will be closed over the summer, so I am being laid off for July and August. I decided that I am going to read tarot at the Farmer’s Market this summer. However, the Farmer’s Market started yesterday, so I will be starting that next week. So much for having Sundays off. I’m actually looking forward to it, though. It will definitely be good practice for me.

So between work, classes, teaching, coaching, and now the Farmer’s Market, there’s still not a lot of down time. Yet. In July, I’ll have plenty (and plenty of other projects to keep me busy, I’m sure. Like the new class I am writing for the Seminary.) I’ll just have to take my naps where I can get them!

People have asked me how I manage to do all the things I do. I come by it honestly – my mom was a workaholic and a perfectionist (and I say this affectionately, not as criticism!). That, and I just can’t NOT do any of the things that I do. They all fulfill me and support my life purpose in some way. If I were to stop doing them, I would be sad because I wouldn’t feel like I was moving toward my life purpose as fully. So I just keep going.

What about you? Are you moving toward your life purpose? What’s holding you back? Life coaching can help keep you on track and accelerate your progress. Drop me a line and check out how!

Coaching Forward Into Your Achievements

It’s that time of year again. The time when all the media is going on about New Year’s Resolutions, and diet ads abound.

It’s the time when we look back on what we accomplished in the past year and look forward to what we would like to accomplish in the coming year. The time of year when we are inundated by advice about how to keep the resolutions that we make.

I don’t make resolutions on New Year’s. Most resolutions don’t actually come about. There’s any number of reasons for this. Many are made in the spur of the moment, are vague and are spoken only once. Eating healthier or exercising more are wonderful things, but how do you know if you’ve done them?

If you want to actually achieve what you set out to do, it is more effective to think about what you want, be specific and write down your goals.

Wishing you a Happy & ABUNDANT 2014 from WalksWithin.comIn The Elements of Abundance, I talk about 5 steps for getting from where you are to where you want to be:

  1. Get clear on what you want. Using the weight loss example, if losing weight has been on your list for 10 years, and you haven’t managed to do it yet, why is that? Is it only on your list because society says fat isn’t beautiful (which is a total lie, btw)? Do you really want to be healthy, and deep down you know that has very little to do with the numbers on the scale? Using another example, if you’re not happy with your job, what would you rather be doing? Are you willing to put in the effort to make the necessary changes? What does your ideal life really look like?
  2. Change your language. “My body is healthy and strong” is a much more powerful affirmation than “I want to lose 10 lbs.” The way you talk to yourself has a direct effect on your performance in life.
  3. Focus on the feelings. How will you feel when you have achieved your goal? What you focus on you get more of, so if you’re focused on how crappy it is to not have what you want, guess what! You’re going to get more to feel crappy about. On the other hand, by focusing on what is going well for you, and how wonderful it will feel when you get what you wish for, you’ll get more of what things to feel great about.
  4. Take action. Wishing and hoping will only get you so far. Even a simple action such as writing down your goals will help you move closer towards your desires. The more action you take, the quicker you will achieve your dream.
  5. Make space for manifestation. This last step is a bit harder to put into words. It’s about positive expectation, and being open to receive what the Universe brings your way. Make room for what you’ve said you want to enter your life. If you’re wanting a new computer, make room for it on your desk. Get rid of the clutter that is holding the energy necessary for the new stuff to enter in.

One place a lot of people experience challenges is in the follow through. The goals are set, the vision is clear, and then life gets in the way. I’ll start tomorrow. Or the next day. There’s plenty of time.

The next thing you know it’s the end of the year. Again. While one of my favorite sayings is, “There are no unrealistic goals, only unrealistic timelines,” it’s easy to let that become an excuse not to get anything done. This is where a life coach comes in, to help you stay on track and focused on your goals. Your life coach helps keep the timeline moving along.

What do you do when life is challenging you?

I didn’t get any housework done yesterday. Nor did I get any homework, or grading, or costuming done. In fact, my personal to do list remains pretty much untouched. I accomplished a lot, though.

LiveThere are a number of people in my spiritual community right now who are not well, or just lonely. What started out as a visit to a friend in the hospital ended up being a tour of ministering to the ill.

It could have been depressing, seeing all those people who are suffering in one way or another. But it was actually uplifting. Seeing the joy I was able to bring just by being present, and truly listening to what was going on for them in that moment, and having no other purpose than to be there for that person was very fulfilling.

It’s days like this that I love my calling. There may not have been any financial compensation, but the reward was well worth it.

I’ve had a lot of discussions with people lately who are having a difficult time, either with their physical or mental health. I’ve even had my own challenges!

My theory is that as we move through this evolutionary change, and work to raise our vibration (or bring through more light, however you want to look at it) we’re going to face increasingly more demanding experiences. Just like when you were in school – the tests you were given in grade 9 were more difficult than the ones you were given in grade 5.

This in itself could be a depressing thought – life isn’t necessarily going to get any easier.

I encourage you to change your perspective. It just gets different. Each test you pass means you get to learn ever more interesting and complex things! You get to grow and have more fascinating experiences. You get to move up to the next level of the video game.

If you think about life like a video game, you know that each level is a little tougher than the one before. You build up slowly, increasing your skill as you go, until you master it and overcome everything it throws at you.

Whatever challenges you are facing right now, know that you are not alone. The Universe will never give you an experience that you are not able to handle. You may just need a little shift in perspective.

If you are struggling, I encourage you to reach out to your support team, the people who love you.

If you feel you have no one to talk to, or would like a little extra help with changing your perspective, I am now offering one-hour single-session consulting to help you shift your mindset and find the positive in your challenges.

One Hour Change Your Perspective Coaching Session

Of course, you can still sign up for a free 1/2 hour sample life coaching session. The choice is yours. You are not alone, and you don’t have to suffer. It lifts me up to help lift you up.

Love and blessings,

How Lucky Are You?

The other night on Facebook, my husband posted a link to this article: “Derren Brown: The Experiments – When “We” goes too far“. In this article, there was a YouTube video of the UK TV show, The Experiments. I have to say, I watched this video in fascinated horror at what the faceless “mob” will do to another person.

It got me curious about this show, though. Are all of Derren Brown’s experiments nasty? Certainly, the Guilt Trip episode was. And then I watched this one:

It is a fascinating experiment on how we create our own luck. Essentially, he plants the idea in a small town that a certain dog statue is lucky.  After several months, the townspeople certainly feel they have better luck than they did before. By planting the idea of luck, the people began to draw more luck to themselves.

So what kind of luck do you believe you have? In the show, Derren suggests that your luck is partly how you believe it to be, and partly based on seeing and taking opportunities. Another way to phrase the question, then, is do you see the opportunities that are around you?

Here are some ways to begin to see more opportunities:

  • Listen to people. A lot of times, we only half-listen to what the people around us are saying. When we don’t give our full attention to what others have to say, we can miss opportunities.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. One man in the video didn’t even see a 50 pound note laying on the ground because he was not aware of his surroundings.
  • Solve problems. A Lot of opportunities masquerade as problems. They may seem awful at the time, and then once you are through the other side, you see what a wonderful opportunity that problem really was.
  • Change your perspective. Is the glass half empty, or is it half full? It’s like those optical illusions – when you shift your view, the whole picture changes. (Life coaching is great for helping to change your perspective.)

I encourage you to make your own luck, even if that means getting out your lucky penny or lucky rabbit’s foot from when you were a child. You never know, you might get lucky!

PS. You can still get a lucky savings of $10 off the Elements of Abundance course if you take advantage of the opportunity before July 3rd.

Summer Specials from Walks Within

I’ve been sick all weekend, so this probably isn’t the best time for me to make decisions like this.

Summer Sale at Walks WithinOn the other hand, I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while, and I figure there’s no time like now to let you know about it.

Starting on Thursday, June 27th I’ll be running The Elements of Abundance program again! The Elements of Abundance is a 5-week course that walks you through the process of manifestation to help you stop living a double life and start living the life you love.

Here’s what one person had to say about the last course:

Seriously, I’m just beginning to grasp the profound changes stemming from this course. The very first call planted a seed, the following calls nurtured it, and now darned if I don’t have a forest popping up around me. It’s humbling and inspiring and encouraging me that I’m moving in the right direction.

~Karen in CA

Back in February I held a contest for people who commented on my post about Money Myths. I was waiting to announce the winner until I knew for sure when I would be running the course again. I’m pleased to announce Sarah is the winner! Sarah, I’ll be contacting you with information on how to register for the course.

Everyone else, click here to register!

This summer I’m also offering a life coaching special. (This is the one I should really be waiting until the cold medication wears off to decide on, but here goes nothing!)

For July and August only, you can get:

  • A 2 hour Discovery Session
  • plus 8 weeks of coaching

for only $250

Just to let you know how big a deal this is… Normally, this would cost you over $1000, so you’re saving more than 75% off my regular rates. I also usually ask for a 3 month commitment, so you’re saving there as well.

There’s no pressure for you to continue coaching after the 8 weeks if you aren’t interested or able. And yet I think you’ll find that life coaching can help keep you on track to achieve your goals faster and easier than you imagine.

Why am I doing this? Well, I have some extra time in my schedule coming up this summer, and I really enjoy helping people. Also, I know what a big financial commitment coaching can be, so I’m doing what I can to make the decision a no-brainer.

What’s the catch? You have to be a new client. And you have to make your commitment by the end of June. I can only guarantee I’ll have the extra time through the summer. In the fall, my schedule packs up again. (Though if you do wish to continue coaching after the summer, I will have some spots available.) And I can’t afford to keep my rates this low forever!

Feel free to email me if you have any questions. And if you’re ready to sign up now, here’s the button:

Summer Coaching Special for only $250

Happy Summer!

My Babies are Growing Up!

As a mother, a priestess, and a life coach, one of my greatest joys is to see my children, students, and clients grow into new levels of awareness.

My oldest son turned 13 this summer. He’s had some challenges with being bullied at school, and has moved through several different distance education programs over the last few years. Last spring he decided he would go back into the public schools this fall.

We chose a school across town where he knows a few people who attend, and also where the bullies from his old school will NOT be attending. Of the people he knows at the new school, two were girls he played with a lot when he was younger. Our families used to be very close, and spend lots of time together. Then, the other mom and I had a falling out, and unfortunately, the children weren’t able to play together any more.

He was really looking forward to seeing them again, since they had been so close in childhood. He even had lunch with them a few times last week. Then, the girls’ mom phoned us – her daughter was coming home in tears because she was being teased about my son having a crush on her.

I’m really proud of my son. As soon as he heard she was being teased, he immediately, and on his own with no prompting, said he would stay away from her. Because he knows what it feels like to be teased and come home in tears. Even after just reconnecting with someone he was really looking forward to seeing again, he chose to back off, so that she could have more peace. Wow.

Tomorrow morning, the first of my students elevates in our church. She’s been a student of mine for three years, and it is so exciting for me to see her efforts acknowledged in this way. She is a kind, gentle, helping soul, and I have looked on her more as an equal than as a student for quite some time. She battled her way through major health challenges with grace and an extremely positive attitude – I’m not sure I could have handled it as well as she did.

blooming plantI don’t take any credit for the growth of my children, or my students. I didn’t make them grow. All I did was hold the space, and water the seeds now and again. I am honored to be a witness to their successes.

It is the same with my coaching clients. I hold the space for your growth, and ask questions to water the seeds you plant. I will also be there to witness and celebrate you as you bloom. If you are interested in seeing how life coaching can help you accelerate your growth, contact me today.

A Taste of (Time) Freedom

I’ve been off work for almost seven weeks now, and it has flown by. I’ve done a lot this summer – I’ve started this blog and video challenge, and I’m about half way through. I’ve recorded videos and recorded meditations, written one course and come up with a concept for another course I plan to teach. I’ve gone to the beach, and spent time with my children, and had surgery. I’ve attended Pagan Pride celebrations in two different cities. I went whale watching!

There are also a lot of things I didn’t do this summer. Things I had hoped to accomplish, and for whatever reason, just did not get to. There are meditations and courses I wanted to write, and meditations I wanted to record. I had planned to do yoga, and travel a bit more. Even though there is still a lot I would like to do and experience, summer vacation is almost over. The children go back to school and I go back to work next week.

Free TimeI am so grateful for the abundance of time that I had this summer. I have had a taste of time freedom, the freedom to choose what I do with my time. One of my major goals ever since I began this website has been to earn enough from my coaching and guided meditations to have time freedom. It takes a lot of effort and learning to be successful, and to be honest, I am still learning how to market myself. I’m still discovering what my message is and how to share it with the world.

That little taste has definitely left me wanting more! Though there were days I felt I didn’t achieve much, I learned that I have the discipline to put energy into and work at my business every day. I was finding my balance between work and play, filling my cup to spill over to others, planning ahead and taking advantage of opportunities that arose in the moment.

I could bemoan how challenging it is going to be to go back to working for someone else, to trading my time for money. Instead I am going to treasure the memory of this summer, and hold it as an example of what I am working towards. And I think I need to add the words “TIME FREEDOM” to the vision board hanging above my desk. I may not be there yet, but I am well on my way!

What is one of your big goals, and what are you doing to realize it?

I’ve Been Hiding Something

I recently enrolled in a 90-day intensive coaching program to take my business to the next level (i.e. not just a hobby). One of my mentors shared this with us this week, and it really struck a chord for me.

The things we fear are probably feared by others, and when we avoid them, we’re doing what others are doing as well.

Which is why there’s a scarcity of whatever work it is we’re avoiding.

And of course, scarcity often creates value.

The shortcut is simple: if you’re afraid of something, of putting yourself out there, of creating a kind of connection or a promise, that’s a clue that you’re on the right track. Go, do that.

Garrett J White

Mary HidingThat quote, in combination with exploring my story, the turning points in my life, and my message, really got me thinking. A lot of my story – what brought me to this point in my life, this website, the meditations and the spiritual coaching – revolves around my spirituality.

And yet, I’ve been dancing around that spirituality without being clear about it for almost three years. I was afraid of being judged. I was afraid of not being liked. I was afraid of scaring off potential clients.

This week I realized that my fear has kept me small, and it has made my message murky. I haven’t been completely authentic or in alignment with myself on Walks Within. It even kept me from sharing a huge accomplishment a couple of months ago. That changes today.

If you haven’t guessed it from some of my postings, I am Pagan. In fact, I am a High Priestess with the Aquarian Tabernacle Church of Canada, a legally recognized Wiccan Church. I have a congregation of people that I serve and teach on a regular basis.

The words “Wiccan” and “Pagan” have some negative connotations, and those negative connotations are part of what has driven my fear. It may even bring up some fear for you. Here is what being a Wiccan means to me:

  • I honor both the feminine and masculine aspects of the Divine
  • I honor the Divine in everyone
  • I honor the Divine in the natural world all around me
  • I honor the Truth in all forms of spirituality
  • I honor each individual’s path to the Divine
  • I take responsibility for my actions and everything that happens to me

That’s the basics for me. Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing my story with you. I want to thank you for being part of my journey, and continuing to learn and grow with me.
