Yesterday was my first day reading tarot at the Farmers Market. It was a beautiful day, and because it was also Mothers Day, there were a fair number of people there.
I’ve been alternatively excited and nervous leading up to yesterday. Prior to this year, I’ve dabbled with tarot. It’s an interesting tool, and one I’ve wanted to learn how to better use. I would do occasional readings for myself and sometimes for friends, but I never took the time to study it. I’ve read several different books, and once or twice started “a card a day” study. It didn’t last.
I wasn’t confident enough to let go of my crutch – you know, the little book that comes with the deck. I didn’t trust my own impressions and interpretations of the symbols in the cards.
Because I didn’t trust my connection with Divine Source.
Tarot is just a tool. It helps to tap in to intuition and the collective unconscious. It is a pictorial way for the Divine to give us messages. If you’re anything like me, you need things spelled out. 🙂 Tarot helps to spell things out.
I’ve spent several years now developing my ability to meditate and listen to God. I’ve spent the last year and a half learning more about myself and my connection to the Universe. I’m starting to trust my connection more and more. And so I’m becoming better able to interpret the messages that the Universe sends through the mechanism of the tarot.
I’ve taken the advice of my mentor, and ditched the crutch. I tune in and look at the cards and see what is going on in them individually. And I’m starting to see how they interact with each other. I’m starting to see more of the patterns.
I still have a lot to learn. My readings are still pretty quick. I feel like I’m skimming the surface. There are more layers of meaning, more symbols, more connections. I know they are there, and as I work with the tool more, I will discover more.
Making the commitment to read tarot pretty much every week for the next five months reminds me very much of when I originally started my women’s circle. I have said this is something I want to learn more about. I needed a way to hold myself accountable to do the work. And this commitment is definitely that!
I had a lot of fun yesterday. I enjoyed stretching outside my comfort zone. Plus, the positive feedback and the people watching is a fantastic bonus!
